spider house is exactly what gives this city the character that would incite me to move here all the way from the east coast after college... the staff is charismatic and the bevs are delish, whether it's beer or tea. given that i know almost no one in austin, i love that i've been able to chill on the www without feeling awkward about running solo. great vibe. - Kate , posted 06/25/05 |
 Great coffee house, excellent selection of caffine beverages, the iced toddy will just about wake the dead...Not only fills the nitch left by mojo's and for you old timers the old quacks on the drag but charts new ground... I just recently re-located from the San Francisco Bay Area and there is no cafe in existence there that would even begin to come close!!! Open seven days a week from 8am til' 2am, this place has become a centerpoint and meeting place for the many adventures i've encountered in Austin. The menu is extensive! All the Java drinks and Teas you can fathom and they've got a great selection of tasty treats as well as Beer & Wine to choose from... The music they play is always an eclectic mix of everything!!! From Elvis to Emo and Punk to Psychedelic Rock and 80's to Nina Simone and everything in between that too... They have Wi-Fi and you'll see students with laptops actually trying to study which is amazing because with such socializing going on, i can't see how anyone can actually focus on school work... The decorative lighting and chill atmosphere in the garden patio is Excellent! They've recently remodelled and added a secondary deck that will be open very soon... On certain nights, they have a back area they provide for free film screenings so you should definitely check the schedule! The people are extremely social and i've found it's the best place to connect... The coffee is really strong and i guess that's why everyone is vibey and well caffeinated!
