Swap Unwanted Paperback Books Online, Simply and Nationwide
Paperbackswap.com is a pretty sweet setup that fills a gap in the used books market between amazon.com/half.com/ebay.com and your local thrift stores.
I've found that many paperbacks sold online cost as little as 1c, but then shipping costs are usually $2.50-4.00, making them too expensive for what they are. Some items, with a bit of luck and searching, can be found at local thrift stores, but are now being sold for $1.50-1.99, plus you've got to search around for the titles you want. This is where Paperback Swap comes in...
It works like this - you join for free (but they do mention a possible $10-20 annual fee in the future) and list a minimum of 9 books you want to swap. This gives you 3 credits that can be used to request 3 books listed on the swap site, free of charge, no mailing cost.
Other users may request a book you've listed, in which case you package it, mail it (about $1.42 via media mail). You earn a credit every time a book you mailed our was received and confirmed on the site.
And so it goes on. Quite a nice system really and if you want you can list me as the referrer - simoninslc@yahoo.com.
