Friendly and Inexpensive
Malaga has become our new weekend spot. Their kitchen stays open 'til midnight, the wine list is lengthy and moderately priced and the service is friendly. I wouldn't recommend it to those with hearty appetites, but the food is great. Try the calamari, lamb, beef tenderloin and bacon-wrapped scallops....you can't go wrong with any of these! - austingymdiva , posted 08/06/05

Malaga...tapas
Tapas are great, atmosphere's not too bad - Anton , posted 04/12/05
Wonderful wine & tapas bar
6th street is for the college crowd. it's cliche. best places on 6th i think are library, buffalo billiards, and maybe maggie mae's... i really wouldn't recommend 6th to someone who's not looking to get hammered while jammin to top 40 music.

i suggest what the dallas transplants have designated as the "warehouse district"... 4th through 6th streets, west of Colorado street. cedar street (the venue) is cliche, but for the more mature audience ("play that funky music" is an hourly cover). oil can and boy's cellar are a riot (both are gay bars). malaga is a wonderful wine/tapas bar... bitter end is quaint. speakeasy is a good time. cuba libre has $10 martini and manicure night on thursday. lucky lounge is a good blend of the younger/mature crowds, and nextdoor red fez is fun, but can be crowded and the doormen aren't very friendly. Oslo is the new hotness club in austin. seems to always be a line to get in, and you have to dress to impress. i haven't been there yet, even though i have access to those "bypass the line" passes. again, doormen/bouncers have gotten a negative rating by fellow concierge and by guests...

my fav spot is malaga, the wine/tapas place. it's loud, but the good wine and racks of tapas make up for that. i suggest you go there, grab an Austin Chronicle, and decide 'where to next.' - blis , posted 07/06/04
