Not bad; tasty and light
In a nutshell, pleasant but not exciting. The food ranges over several ethnic cuisines, making playful use of Americans' attraction to the New Age-y aspects of "eastern" religions (which, which despite the not-so-serious tone, might be tiresome if you're sensitive to that kind of stereotyping.) (There's also a nod to a Greek philosopher or two, so it isn't an _entirely_ orientalist slant.) The food is fresh and tasty, but it doesn't match up to the quality of local restaurants that are more specialized. You can get better Indian food at half a dozen Indian places in Austin, for example. The decor and place settings establish a friendly, casual tone, though the subdued behavior of the waitstaff and the clientele sometimes suggests that they are moved to real piety by the "cosmic" nature of the place.
Despite never being great, the food is pleasant enough to bring me back on a regular basis. It's easy to eat a healthy and non-gigantic meal at Cosmic Cafe, which often makes it stand out among the alternatives.
