You know what art is, right? You visit a quiet, white space, comment on esoteric art pieces, and exchange neutral, respectful remarks with your high-minded peers – sound familiar? Prepare for the gallery opening that wants to completely banish that idea of “art,” and offer something a little more off-the-wall. From March 6th through 16th the Austin Enchanted Forest will attempt to change your mind about art by, first and foremost, taking it outside. The result? The 4th Annual Art Outside event.
The Austin Enchanted Forest has grown to become one of the most unique art venues in America, hosting such sought-after underground talent as Kid Beyond, The Muytator, Bassnectar, and Eve Ensler. At its root, Art Outside (or “AO”) inspires new forms of creativity and experience by taking art out of the traditional gallery and repositioning it in a fanciful, celebratory environment. Visitors are as likely to encounter traditional canvas paintings as they are modern dancers performing traditional ballet while suspended in the trees.
Art Outside (AO) is a community-based temporary art show created by hundreds of artists and appreciated by thousands of participants. For its 8-day run in March, AO aims to be a living, art installation that puts artists in direct contact with visitors. Tyler Hanson, the producer of Art Outside, has orchestrated some of the world’s most well-attended live, interactive art events, and is confident this year’s Art Outside will be the most evocative one yet.
